FAQs

Does my child need to bring anything to class?

No, all lesson materials will be provided!

Will there be homework?

I do not send homework home with Introductory to Music or Creative Music & Me students. They may receive activity sheets to bring home, but they are optional. I may send them home with a simple task or a little scavenger hunt, and again this will be all for fun.

Do I need to purchase books or materials?

No. everything will be included in this class.

My child is showing interest in an instrument. Should I start them on it?

It depends on their age and instrument. This program is to help your child potentially find an instrument they would like to learn, but there is much more being learned as well. If your child is 5-6, then yes, that is a good age to start an instrument. If your child is younger and in this program, I will suggest they remain here until they are a bit older. Please ask me if you have any questions!

How long is this program?

Each course runs for 6 week sessions.

Can parents sit in during the class?

Yes, we have an open door policy! However, it may cause a bit of distraction to your child. I have found that children listen to me better when parents aren't in the same room, but you are always welcome to stay.

What are the class sizes?

This will vary by location. There will be no more than 10 students per session.

My child doesn't participate the way other children do in class.

Not to worry! Every child moves at their own place, and pushing children to perform has no place in an Early Childhood program of any kind. We believe that you – the parent/guardian – is the child’s most important teacher, and home is the most important place for that learning to grow.

When you stop and think about it, you already know that success should be measured more by what a child does all the rest of the week than what they do in the 45 minutes at Introductory to Music class. And remember, music is about process, not performance.

Every child can be successful in a music class, no matter what developmental level they are on. So have a blast dancing, singing, and playing instruments together at home the way we do in class! Before you know it, the same thing will happen at the studio.
