FAQs
What is the best age to start learning?
Kids as young as age 4 can start learning an instrument.

What instrument should I start my child with?
If your child is showing an interest in a certain instrument We suggest you encourage them to start there. If your child is showing interest in general music, We do have an Introduction to Music program where we explore many different instruments. Ukuleles and Pianos are great instruments to start on as well.

Do I need to have my own instrument?
We highly recommend owning your instrument. To progress in your instrument you will need to practice outside of your lessons. We understand holding off on purchasing an instrument until you are completely sure this is what you or your child would like to pursue. We do have instruments that you can use during your lessons.

How long should you practice each day?
This varies depending on your age and your goal. Practicing as low as fifteen (15) minutes a day will improve your skill.
Do you offer exams?
We do offer exams if this is the route you decide to go but it is not mandatory to further your skill.
Do you teach adults?
Yes! We teach students of all ages. It is never too late to start.
How long is an average class?
Lessons are usually thirty (30) minutes in length. We do offer longer lessons by request and depending on your goals we may recommend a longer lesson time.

Do you offer group lessons?
Yes, I do. This is great if siblings or friends are learning the same instrument.

Do you offer lessons during school hours for homeschoolers?
Yes, we do. We are happy to also offer private tutor lessons for music class.
Do you offer online lessons?
We do offer online lessons. We primarily use zoom for our online lessons but other options are available.
Do I need to use a method book?
Method books are nice to have but not needed depending on your goals. If we believe a method book will benefit you we will recommend one. Method books are great if you intend to learn everything you can about your instrument or if you learn best through structure and discipline. we have had lots of students succeed with and without method books.
Why use felt picks on ukuleles?
Felt picks are used to protect your instrument. Ukuleles don’t normally have a pick guard so the felt will protect them from scratches. Felt picks are also softer on the strings.
Can children miss school for music lessons?
Yes! As per the Ontario Education Act “A person is excused from attendance at school if the person is absent from school for the purpose of receiving instruction in music and the period of absence does not exceed one-half day in any week;”
